//Let me get this out. I love summer. I love the sunshine, the warm summer nights, and sitting by the pool watching the kids play. I love the cool drinks, and wearing less bulky clothes. I love the colors, and the thunderstorms. Oh, how I especially love the thunderstorms.
//I was and still am lucky enough to have the childhood and lifetime friend everyone dreams about. {More about that for another post}. My best friend,. Katherine {who lived across the street from me almost my entire life} had a porch on the front of her house. Over the last 20 years we have spent countless hours sitting, playing, talking, and dreaming together on that front porch. But we especially loved the essence of The Porch during summer thunderstorms. I can still feel the misty breeze coming to kiss my skin as we sat on that old front porch and told stories, while eating saltine crackers, and watching the storms pass. Sometimes her mom would sit with us, and tell us stories of her past, and her family in Greece.
//These times on The Porch are some of my favorite childhood memories. These memories that I hold close to my heart are like scenes from books I have read, except they are real, and house deep feelings that are mine to hold onto forever. They are what has shaped me into the woman I am today.
//Now that Katherine and I are "grown-ups", we still flock to The Porch whenever we have the chance. Katherine is temporarily living a few hundred miles away from {me}, but when she comes Home, we love to reminisce on that porch. If we are lucky, a storm will pass through to make our time together even more special. One day I hope our children will love and appreciate all that porch holds in its old wooden supports, and maybe they will even have a porch of their own to cherish as we will always cherish our porch that has given us so much.

//As I work on getting my online shop organized and stocked, I want to ask my readers for some input. In the comment section below, please let me know what your favorite summer color combo is. What colors would you love to see in a zip bag, wristlet, or other Hoot & Bumble product? I want to know what you like!

I like aqua and sand, pale yellow and grey, red and aqua and bright pink and orange!
ReplyDeleteGreat color combinations! I especially love the yellow and grey, and red and aqua!
DeleteI like yellow and aqua (well pretty much yellow and any blue), or yellow and gray.
ReplyDeletePS. I think of you every time I have saltines during a thunderstorm. :) I love that porch too, it was our home base for so many things, from games to fighting. That's where you and [my] Michael forced me to listen to Linkin Park because I hated them at first, that's where you and I would go whenever we were fighting over something. It was like neutral ground that even though it was technically attached to my house, neither of us took claim to it, we would flock there to sort out all of our problems. That was where me and [your] Michael made up our Bye, Bye, Bye dance. That was base in tag or time out in football. It was where I ate nerds off the ground. (haha) and where you'd go when I was "On Restriction" and couldn't leave the house, and I'd open the window and we'd talk. It's where we'd go when we needed advice, and where [my] mom taught us to shuffle cards. It was the perfect safe haven for us and something that I'm so glad we had over the years.
Do you remember trying to find different places for that, Remember we tried to use the swing in front of your house. (LMAO, remember how that ended!) Or when we tried to use my attic, even though we couldn't stand up, and it was miserable up there. Or the tree right next to your parents driveway before they cut it down, or the tree next to Pearl and Reeds that we poured nail polish all over. Or the back porch on the side of my house, that stopped having a roof 10 years ago. Or the shed in my back yard right after they built it before it got filled with stuff, when it was like a house.
But none of those places held the same magic for us. I love it that even now when I love 250 miles away, I can come home and we go sit on that porch into the early hours in the morning, I love it that you come over and we sit on that porch watching your son play. It is the best thing in the world to be sharing that place with him, even though he has no idea. That's our magical place, just like Firefly Lane. ;)
I love you Dear, there aren't very many people that at the age of 24 can say that they have been best friends with the same person for 20 years. There aren't a lot of people who can ever say that. We lucked out and I'm so happy about that.
Maybe you should make a zip bag in that awful puke green (that my siding used to be) and the red (that the porch floor used to be). Maybe it will bring you luck. ;)
PS. I tried to comment from my phone and it wouldn't let me, that's why it took me so long to respond. Love you sweetheart.
You are the best, and words can't describe how grateful I am to have a friend like you. I love you so much. And I also love sharing The Porch with Jackson. I can NOT wait to share it with your future children! :)
